Katavi National Park is one of Africa’s last true wildernesses — a land forgotten by time. Located in western Tanzania, it’s remote and rarely visited, yet brimming with some of the continent’s densest concentrations of hippos, crocodiles, and buffalo.
During the dry season, Katuma River pools shrink into muddy basins crammed with hundreds of hippos and crocodiles competing for space. Vast herds of buffalo and elephant roam the floodplains, while lions and hyenas follow in their wake. It’s a raw, cinematic safari experience — far from crowds and civilization.
*Fact: Katavi receives fewer visitors in a year than Serengeti gets in a single day.*
