Ngorongoro Conservation Area

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is one of Africa’s most extraordinary natural wonders. Dominated by a massive volcanic caldera, the Ngorongoro Crater shelters an entire ecosystem of over 25,000 large animals within its 20-kilometer-wide basin. It’s one of the few places in Africa where visitors can see the Big Five in a single day.

Beyond the crater rim, rolling highlands and Maasai villages add cultural depth to the landscape. Visitors can explore archaeological treasures at Olduvai Gorge — the ‘Cradle of Mankind’ — and walk among the Maasai who coexist with wildlife in harmony.

*Fact: The Ngorongoro Crater formed about 2.5 million years ago and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.*

  • Best Time to Visit: June – October for clear weather; November – March for lush landscapes.
